RESTON, Va., October 4, 2007 – Official Payments Corp.®, a subsidiary of Tier Technologies, Inc. (Nasdaq: TIER), today announced that Guilford County, North Carolina taxpayers can now pay their real and personal property taxes, and motor vehicle taxes, online or by telephone using a debit or credit card.
The Guilford County Tax Department has signed an agreement authorizing Official Payments to accept property and vehicle tax payments made using any American Express®, Discover®, MasterCard® or VISA® card by visiting www.officialpayments.com, or by calling 1-877-309-4911. The service is provided in English and Spanish.
Property tax bills are mailed to Guilford County property owners in July of each year, and are due on September 1st. Taxes are payable at par or face amount if paid before January 6th following the due date. Vehicle tax bills are issued within two months of the time of vehicle renewal or new registration.
Guilford County, established in 1771, is the third largest county in North Carolina by population, and includes the cities of Greensboro and High Point.

Official Payments charges taxpayers a convenience fee for the service. Taxpayers using credit or debit cards with bonus rewards programs may, depending on their card's program, earn reward points, airline frequent flyer miles or cash back for paying their taxes. Rewards programs vary depending on credit card companies’ rules. Taxpayers are advised to check with their card issuer for details. The IRS has determined that the convenience fee paid or incurred by a business making a tax payment with a credit card can be deducted as a business expense.
